Joachim is a lost soul. A bitter soul. A vengeful soul. All he is left to ponder in his prison is revenge, bloody retribution for his treatment. The painful memories of Walter and his betrayal plague his mind and have, many say, slowly eaten away at his sanity.

This would account for his irrational behavior: violent outbursts and a sharp tongue. Leon Belmont would have no idea of the madness raging inside that elegant shell. I suppose Joachim has a right to be angry, untrusting, bitter and accusing when it comes to others.

After all, Leon was after the same prize as he. And by all sensibilities, they could have formed a temporary alliance and cut through the darkness together. But that was not in the cards. Fate was not kind to the vampire, and allowed his pride, his searing anger to simultaneously blind and bind him.

But through all of this strife, I can sense a determined and spirited being. One that hates to be restrained. Based on his behavior when Leon met him, the image of a bratty, even spoiled young man comes to mind most quickly when visualizing his mortal years. After all, if he was in fact a member of the nobility, he might be expected to carry an air of arrogance. Of divine right.

If one could learn to look past these shallow elements of his character, I believe one would find a strong, charismatic individual.

I could look past all of that.
