LEON BELMONT
The game's spirited and ultimately tragic protagonist; he came to the castle in the Forest of Eternal Night in order
to rescue his betrothed, Sara, from Walter's clutches. During his mission, he became face to face with Joachim, deep
in the Dark Palace dungeon.
I believe that had he been given the opportunity, Leon would have walked away from this battle. He seemed relatively
curious about Joachim, and I think would have trusted in him as a temporary comrade. Nevertheless, Joachim was too
consumed with hatred and bitterness to rationalize this, and thus lost his life to this man.
WALTER BERNHARD
A cunning and treacherous vampire lord; little of his personal history is given in the game, but most sources have agreed
that he in fact is responsible for Joachim's vampiric transformation, as well as his imprisonment in the Dark Palace of
the Waterfall.
It is clear upon meeting Joachim that he holds ill will towards him, as he seeks to exact his revenge. The two never visibly
cross paths in the game, and curiously, Walter never mentions his servant. I think it's safe to assume however that the
two at the very least were reasonably close prior to Joachim's current predicament. I would even go as far as to say that
they had some kind of relationship (platonic or otherwise). Joachim's sense of betrayal was too
great for it to have been a random incident.
